Couple standing together at their wedding ceremony

Good old family photos on your wedding day. For majority of couples this is a must do but I also warn couples that it can be the most annoying part of the day too.

We are simply trying to coordinte so many people who honestly are thinking about chatting to a relative that they haven’t seen in years, where the bar is or if they can race to the toilet. They aren’t really paying attention to being on a family photo list. So there is a few ways we can go about helping this part of the day run really smoothly.

  1. Pre write your list - this is the one list that I get all of my couples to pre write before the day. This ensures that you dont miss anyone important, you get all of the combinations that you need and it keeps everyone happy. I ask that you write this list with people’s names instead of ‘mum, dad’ so that on the day I can call people‘s names out and they should be around. Unfortunately I don’t have super powers to know everyone’s names so this really helps. Pre writing the list also helps if you have any possibly awkward situations. I can tell any disgruntled family on the day that ‘this is the list we have written and will stick to for now’ and therefore this takes the pressure off you. In saying that, you can always add anyone in on the day if you want extras’s or have forgeton something.

  2.  Following from that, you could have someone designated to help chase people that are needed. This is a good job for a sibling or aunty that knows most of the family.

  3.  Let people know that they are on the list. Mum and dad are obvious but Aunty Jo or all of the cousins may not realise that you want a photo with them so just best to pre warn them before the day to save chasing them at the bar.

  4.  Your family photo list can be as long or as short as you would like. If those people are important to you have them on the list. As much as I would like to say ‘we can get it later’ the opportunity may not arise or we might forget. So it’s best to do it straight after the ceremony to ensure that it doesnt get missed. I do punch them out pretty quick. In saying that, the longer the list the longer it takes and the more frustrating it can be. So I would suggest grouping family as much as you can. Chuck all the aunties, uncles and cousins from one side in together instead of doing them all individually.

Here’s an example list that you could modify to suit you but again we would go over this before the day together as well.

You would put in their actual name, not ‘mum, dad’.

B & G stand for Bride & Groom.

Bride’s Side

  • B+G+Mum+Dad

  • B+G+Mum+Dad+siblings

  • B+G+Mum+Dad+siblings+partner+kids

  • B+G+Mum+Dad+siblings+partner+kids+grandparents

  • All of mum’s side

  • All of dad’s side

  • B+G+Grandparents

  • B+G+Siblings

Repeat for Groom’s Side.

I hope this helps as you plan your family photo lists!

Much love, Kelsey x
